
Chiang Mai Train Station is located 3.3 km from the Tha Phae Gate, on the Eastern side of Chiang Mai Old Town, and 2.2 km from the lively Chang Klan Road near the Night Bazaar and many of the city’s best restaurants and hotels. The Arcade bus station, which is the city’s main bus station with departure to destinations such as Pai, is located 1.5 km to the North of Chiang Mai Train Station. For most people arriving at Chiang Mai Train Station it is too far to walk to their hotel, places of interest in the city, or onward travel connections. Chiang Mai does not have a metro or ‘skytrain’ system, but it does have four types of road transport to and from it railway station: songthaew (Thailand’s famous shared taxis), tuk-tuks, yellow taxis and a public route.
